Malala
Yousafzai was born the 12th of July 1997, in the town of Mingora in
the Swat-valley in Pakistan. She is known for fighting for women’s right for
education. It all started when Malala was 11-12 years, early in 2009. The
Taliban took control over the Swat-valley, and banned girls from attending
school. BBC wanted to cover what happened in Swat-valley by writing something.
They found out that they wanted to get a young girl to write about her life in
Swat-Valley, in the form of a blog. At first, a girl called Aisha was picked to
write it, but her parents didn’t agree, and thought it was too dangerous, so
the local school teacher, Ziauddin Yousafzai suggested his own daughter,
Malala. She started to write a blog, where she wrote about girls in the
Swat-valley, who couldn’t go to school.
The 9th of October 2012, she was
shot in the head and neck by Taliban, while she sat on a bus on her way home
from school. Her injuries were so bad that she had to be moved to a hospital in
Birmingham in England, and so, her family went too. At this day, she lives in
England, and she is studying there, but when she is done with her education,
she wants to come back to Swat-valley, to fight for girl’s right to education. She
has a memoir, called I am Malala
which she has written together with the British journalist Christina Lamb.
My opinion
about Malala and her stands
I think Malala is very brave, especially since
she is so young. She is also very mature for her age, she has been ever since
she started blogging, and maybe before that too. I don’t think people who have
the opportunity to get a real education appreciate education, while people in
counties like Pakistan, who can’t get a real education, is the people who want
it most. That is kind of what I think Malala means too. That people in for
example Norway just take their education for granted, because in Norway, we all
have the opportunity, but in Pakistan they don’t have the opportunity to get a
real education, and that is important to Malala. Malala is brave. She agreed to
write the blog while nobody else wanted to. She was shot in the head, and
brought to Birmingham. She has released a memoir, and she is a fighter for
girls’ education.
Malala
fights for what she believes in. I think she is an inspiration, and I agree
with Malala that we should fight for girl’s right for education, in every
country. Why shouldn’t girls have the rights to educate themselves? Girls are
just as smart as boys, if not smarter. And I think there is so much undiscovered
potential in girls who haven’t got the chance yet. Maybe they have the skills
to be the next president in some country? We don’t know yet, because their
abilities have not been tested yet. Everyone deserves the chance to go to a
real school, take exam and become what they want to do. Education is important,
because you can do so much more if you have the education to do what you dream
of. Why should just boys get the chance to do that?
